This is the monthly live event, usually on the first Saturday of the month, that is an exclusive part of my Imperial Tutor mentorship. I either present a more formal lecture myself, followed by a lively discussion (what used to be called “History Train Lectures”), or I invite an important voice or two in Chinese medicine (practitioner of the East Asian healing arts, philosopher, anthropologist, historian, translator, author etc.) for a casual chat. While this is a members-only event, the general public can always join for a 9-day $9 trial to check it out. Imperial Tutor members always get access to the recordings right after the event and for three months back, in addition to many other benefits.
For this month, I will get my dear friend Michael Max (host of the famous Qiological podcast) to help a student — and soon proud graduate! — from my Triple Crown classical Chinese training program, Chris Walsh, explore a way forward with continuing education. What are the pros and cons to getting an advanced degree and enrolling in additional institutional programs, specifically the current doctoral programs offered in the US? Since Chris is in the US, this would involve a huge upheaval and economic hardship, and yet, he is exploring this option. That is how committed he is to deepending his education in Chinese medicine! But are there other avenues? How can we find mentors and teachers who are authentic transmitters of this powerful tradition of Chinese medicine? What is the fastest, most respectful, and most effective path towards becoming the sort of healer that the world needs so badly right now?
Of course there is no one path, and one answer, that is right for everybody. That is why we are inviting you all to join us for this conversation. This promises to be a lively Tea Time Talk, and will hopefully reveal some answers that are useful to many of you, and to me and Michael, since we get asked these questions on a regular basis.
