Tea Time Talk: Cultivation in Chinese Medicine: What Can Farmers and Doctors Learn from Each Other?

This is the monthly live event, on the second Friday or Saturday of each month, as part of my Imperial Tutor mentorship. I either present a more formal lecture myself, followed by a lively discussion (what used to be called “History Train Lectures”), or I invite an important voice or two in Chinese medicine (practitioner of the East Asian healing arts, philosopher, anthropologist, historian, translator, author etc.) for a casual chat. While this is a members-only event, the general public can always join for a 9-day $9 trial to check it out. Current members, please REGISTER HERE on our members-only platform.

This month's Tea Time Talk is a follow-up conversation on last month's lecture on "Cultivating Virtue-Power.” I invite you to join me in a conversation about cultivation, in farming and in healing, with Pamela Sherman from the Lilium Initiative (LEARN MORE HERE), who asked me about doing a presentation on the intersection of farming and medicine for her organization. So for this special event, our Imperial Tutor group will intersect with the members of the Lilium Initiative, who are part farmers and part Chinese medicine practitioners, in a discussion that will undoubtedly stretch our imagination on the meaning of healing and creating harmony and balance in the world.

  • What does it look like, in concrete and abstract terms, to promote sustainability, restoration, transformation, and cultivation?

  • Can we learn something from each other about feeding or tilling the soil and digging down deep?

  • And ultimately, how do each of our daily and yearly, personal and professional, practices serve to “harmonize heaven and earth” in the uniquely human role in the middle, if we even want to be there?

I experimented with growing Chinese medicinals on my farm outside of Taos, New Mexico, years ago, and always dreamed of doing it on a larger scale. So it makes me very happy to have this conversation, in the hope of supporting those among you who are growing the medicines that support the healing work of the rest of you. This will be a really interesting interactive event, so I hope you register to attend live instead of watching the recording...
