This is the monthly live event, on the second Friday or Saturday of each month, as part of my Imperial Tutor mentorship. I either present a more formal lecture myself, followed by a lively discussion (what used to be called “History Train Lectures”), or I invite an important voice or two in Chinese medicine (practitioner of the East Asian healing arts, philosopher, anthropologist, historian, translator, author etc.) for a casual chat. While this is a members-only event, the general public can always join for a 9-day $9 trial to check it out.
For our August event, I present a talk on “Cultivating Healing Power in the Tradition of the Chinese Medicine Classics.” I shall start the conversation by introducing you to the role of dé “virtue/power/efficacy” in classical Chinese medicine, on the basis of Sun Simiao's famous essay on medical ethics. After I briefly summarize the historical context and philosophical roots of this concept, hopefully I will have inspired you all enough for us to jointly explore the meaning and potential applications of this information from the perspective of your own clinical practice and efforts to step into Sun Simiao's vision of the "Great Healer" or "Eminent Physician."
